GATE @inter airport europe

The inter airport Europe trade fair, the industry-leading trade fair for airport equipment and technology, came to a close on 13th October in Munich having welcomed record numbers through its doors. With 13,854 visitors in four days, inter airport recorded an increase of 9% compared to the previous year. Once all the trade fair contacts were quantitatively and qualitatively evaluated, the GATE German Airport & Technology Equipment Association also received a thoroughly positive report.

On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of its existence, the German Airport Technology & Equipment Association (GATE) presented itself at inter airport Europe with a new exhibition concept. “The aim of the appearance was not just to awake the interest of potential members but also to enter into substantial dialogue with all the other trade fair visitors too", explains GATE President, Dieter A. Heinz. It is for this very reason that the representatives of over 50 member companies posed this question in their technical discussions: “What issue will determine the future of the airport: sustainability, new services, passenger comfort, new technologies or security?". The majority of visitors to the stand assigned most significance to passenger comfort.

This issue has long been the focus for member company, Materna. “Airports and airlines count on simple and convenient solutions in passenger handling that can be seamlessly integrated into their terminal infrastructure. With the Materna self-service solutions, we simplify the handling tasks for check-in and baggage registration, in order to reduce queues at counters and offer passengers a stress-free start to their journey" says Jana Eull, Senior Marketing Manager. Dieter A. Heinz adds: "Our association will also have to connect with consumers in the long term, in order to perceive the needs of passengers at an early stage and then to implement them."

The challenge is huge: with increasing passenger numbers, demands in terms of the speed of processes also increase. Which makes the co-ordination of the various roles at the airport all the more important. "Close co-operation with the airports themselves and with the leading associations, such as the ADV at a German level, but also in Europe and throughout the world, is also essential," says Kay Baerenfaenger, Vice President of GATE. In the future, managing these contacts will be one of the focal points of the association's activities.

“We held many discussions at the inter airport trade fair, where the relevance of regular exchange was brought up time and time again. We registered fewer visitors, but in exchange we were very happy with the high level of quality," confirms Isabel Thome from SEW Eurodrive. The more members participating in the work of the association, the more successfully exchange with managers from all areas and levels of the airport industry will develop. Only in this way can collaborative work be undertaken to develop processes and techniques with a view to ensuring high levels of passenger comfort.
