450connect builds and operates the secure 450 MHz critical communications network on behalf of the German Federal Network Agency, exclusively for Critical Infrastructure operators. The dedicated mobile network runs independently of public networks and stays available during major disruptions. It is fully operated in Germany, based on standardized LTE technology, and meets high requirements for security and reliability.
Nationwide coverage is delivered through around 1,600 base stations equipped with battery backup, ensuring up to 72 hours of operation during a power outage. The 450 MHz frequency is widely
recognized as a crisis band due to its robust and far-reaching signal characteristics.
A strict whitelisting process ensures that only tested and approved devices connect to the network. In emergency situations, applications can be prioritized.
Typical use cases include operational, fleet and crisis communications, control room systems, emergency and crisis management, and M2M applications such as remote control, sensor data or tracking.
