GATE welcomes NewSense Engineering GmbH as a new member. The deep-tech company develops Physical AI solutions for airport safety and security, and it arrives with more than a concept: its technology is already in live operation at Munich Airport.

AI that runs where it is needed

What sets NewSense apart is where its AI sits. Instead of relying on continuous cloud processing, the company embeds its algorithms directly into edge computing devices and integrates them into existing airport infrastructure and building automation. That approach answers some of the sector’s toughest requirements: critical infrastructure (KRITIS) regulation, cybersecurity, uptime, low latency and data privacy.

It also addresses a very practical problem. By automating complex safety and security workflows, NewSense helps airport operators cope with rising security demands and ongoing staff shortages.

The industry has taken notice. Alongside its references at Munich Airport and Riga Airport, NewSense has been shortlisted for the FTE Innovate Award 2026 and the Airport Security Award 2026 by International Airport Review.

A partner, not a competitor

NewSense sees itself as an enabler for other GATE members. Its Physical AI is designed to add a layer of real-time intelligence to systems that are already in place, such as access control, camera and sensor networks, perimeter protection or passenger flow management, without requiring providers to overhaul their product architecture.“We want to become an active and driving force within the GATE community. The company plans to share its field experience in GATE working groups and innovation formats such as GATE FUTURE.

Efficiency with a smaller footprint

Sustainability is built into the technology itself. Running AI on energy-efficient edge devices reduces data transmission and avoids much of the carbon footprint associated with permanent cloud computing.
